Bing

 

We currently use Bing a great deal. We have been using it since Monday June 1st, 2009 around 1AM and are optimistic about it. We highly Recommend it to our San Diego customers. Just one thing: It will save them time. It's a decision engine. Not to put all eggs in one basket we of course also use yahoo.com and google.com

 

Our customers in Belgium, Holland and Denmark have tried Bing, but currently the full blown Bing functionality does not work in these contries as far as we can tell. We think it's a matter of time.

 

Also officially Bing is still in Beta

3 x T1 Lines bundled solution in San Diego, California

This week we supported a San Diego based research company in setting up 3 x T1 lines bundled. This gives them 4.5Mb/s download and upload on their Microsoft Essential business Server 2008. The data provider was Cbeyond and the VOIP phone provider was Syndeo Communications, Carlsbad.

Trial Of StorageCraft Server Backup & Recovery w/ Windows Small Business Servers 2008

From tape backup to disk backup: Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 in La Jolla, San Diego, California

For a Management Consulting company in La Jolla, San Diego, California we are currently in the process of switching from tape backup to disk backup. We will most likely use 3 external disk drives, labeled A, B & C. The plan is to rotate the disks on a weekly basis and make sure one disk is taken offsite weekly. The three important things in Real Estate is: Location, Location & Location and in IT the three important things are: Backup, Backup & Backup.

Anti Virus & Anti Spam Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 MR4 Installation Law Office, Kearny Mesa, San Diego

A successful installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 MR4 ( SEP ) for a law office in Kearny Mesa, San Diego has just been completed. They are running a Windows Server 2003 R2 with 8 XP Pro PC's on their LAN. A test installation of SEP was done on our test Windows Server 2003 R2 ahead of time to get fully familiar with all the MR4 features. The production install at the customer site was done the following day during late afternoon / early evening and towards the end of the installation we touched base with Symantec Enterprise support over the phone just to verify all our settings with them. It paid off we prepared carefully for the installation.

Microsoft Essential Business Server EBS 2008 for a research firm in Mission Valley, San Diego

We setup Microsoft Essential Business Server EBS 2008    http://www.microsoft.com/ebs/en/us/default.aspx for a research firm in Mission Valley, San Diego. It runs on three PowerEdge 1800 severs. The first server is MGT a Domain Controller where the users are created and maintained. The second server is MSG the Message Server where Exchange 2008 runs. The third server is SEC a security/firewall configured to control incoming and outgoing traffic and where Internet traffic report are  generated on a daily basis. This product is a great solution for a small to medium size company for their data, email and firewall needs among other features such as remote access. Redundancy is built into the systems since both the MGT & MSG servers are domain controllers.

Demo & support of www.gotomeeting.com for 20+ CPA's in Mission Valley, San Diego 92108

Last week we did a demo of http://www.gotomeeting.com for 20+ CPA's in Mission Valley, San Diego. The CPA's work across the US at customer sites and often need to setup status meetings quickly among employees and present Excel spreadsheets, Word documents & other applications that everyone can see and access. For them http://www.gotomeeting.com turned out to be the prefect tools for their needs. During the presentation we showed how each participant can be a presenter and get keyboard and mouse control over another participants PC/Laptop when the right permissions are given and accepted. http://www.gotomeeting.com is a great tool for having meetings across the Internet and sharing documents and applications among the participants on the fly. The customer immediately signed up for http://www.gotomeeting.com with the monthly subscription fee being around $49 for up to 15 concurrent participants.

Windows Server 2003 Support, Maintenance & Defragmentation San Diego

Recently we defragmented a Microsoft Windows 2003 file server several times for a Law Office with offices in Mission Valley, Pacific Beach & La Jolla and this greatly improved the file access performance. The trick we applied was to first backup their document directory with around 25,000 files, mainly Word & Excel documents to different backup drives. Then we temporarily deleted the document directory from the server and ran the Windows Defragmenter several times. By having an empty document directory while defragmenting gave us a lot of extra free disk space making the defragmentation very effective. After the Defragmentation we copied the document directory back to its original location and ran some tests and the file access was greatly improved.
